Hunger strike planned, 6 Oct 2003

Sorry to trouble you again and again. We are in a desperate struggle.

It was raining for a few days here.It pains to see the drenched huts. It  also pains to see the  land which the  adivasis cultivated  for almost  two decades  being  sown  by the State farming Corporation. Paradoxically thousands of acres of land under  the management of  the  state farming corporation are lying fallow in this  vicinity.

The people are living in pathetic condition. Their huts are in bad shape becuase they lost  even the banboos of their huts in the brutal demolition. Our  efforts  to stay the sowing operation by the Corporation got delayed. The case will go to court only by Monday.

Writ petition against the  amendment of Ceiling Act is  filed by Mihir Desai in Bombay High Court.

We are on a hunger  strike  from  6th of  October onwards at Rahata Tahasil office..Could  you please  send appeal  to the Chief Minister to asking him look into  our  demands.A sample  letter is attached. The letter should reach him on Monday.

Could you  please  share this  with other people of  your  network and  request them to send  appeals.

Only four are sitting for hunger strike because of  prohibitory orders.I will be going  on a hunger strike at Rahata from Wednesday onwards if  our demands are not met by then.I am giving  notice to that effect on Tuesday.
